Remote Outreach

It has been one year since our team last visited Kampot province (southwest Cambodia).

Returning to the Field

While our previous mission trips in the region were successful, we felt a persistent call to return, driven by requests from local church networks.

This time, we pushed further into the interior, intentionally selecting a more remote area where resources and external support are rarely accessible. The journey to these distant villages reminded us of the logistical challenges our rural brothers and sisters face daily in their ministry.

The Grassroots Leaders of Kampot

We were honored to host 64 participants, the majority of whom are home church pastors. These leaders represent the true “grassroots” of the Cambodian church. Most have never had the opportunity to attend a formal Bible school or seminary. Their journey into leadership is born out of a profound personal experience with the salvation of Christ; moved by this transformation, they simply began gathering neighbors in their small villages to worship the Lord.

While they lack formal academic credentials, they possess something truly remarkable: a fire for Christ that is both humbling and convicting. Their dedication to serving their communities with limited resources is a testament to their faith.

Equipping Leaders Through Practical, Accessible Teaching

Witnessing the raw passion of these pastors provided a healthy challenge for our teaching team. We recognized early on that a standard academic lecture would not suffice. To be effective, we adjusted our teaching style to be simpler, practical, and highly visual, utilizing numerous real-life examples and illustrations to bridge the gap between deep theological truths and daily village life.

Deepening Understanding Through Small Groups

Understanding that clarity is the key to sustainable ministry, we shifted our focus toward intensive small-group sharing sessions. By breaking the 64 participants into smaller circles, our team was able to take the time to explain nuances and answer specific questions. This allowed us to ensure that the core messages—especially regarding the grace of God and the authority of the believer—were not just heard, but deeply understood and internalized.

Equipping Leaders for the Future

We believe that training should not end when our team leaves the province. To support their ongoing growth, we were privileged to provide each pastor with a personal set of DPM books. These resources will serve as a “library in a box” for their home churches, allowing them to continue their studies and use the materials as a curriculum for their own congregations.

We thank the Lord for the opportunity to reconnect with Kampot. Seeing 64 leaders leave the seminar with more confidence, clearer doctrine, and a renewed sense of support was a great joy. We return home inspired by their resilience and more committed than ever to reaching the “unreached” leaders of Cambodia’s remote provinces.

Testimonial

My name is Pov Chary. I serve as an evangelism leader and a children’s teacher.

Eventually, we found her unconscious in a tree. Near her, there was a new rope already prepared. At that moment, I was so thankful to God for protecting her and preventing anything terrible from happening. She had fainted in the tree, and when we brought her down, she regained consciousness.  This experience showed me the power of intercessory prayer and how God guides and protects.

Through the book I studied, I have gained a deeper understanding of our role as leaders—like fathers—who have the responsibility to intercede, teach God’s Word, and lead others in God’s way.  Finally, I am deeply grateful for this teaching that brought God’s Word to encourage us leaders in my remote district.
