Historical factors such as closed borders to Christians and Western influence for over 250 years, combined with the cultural importance of family and religious identity, contribute to this difficulty. Rejecting traditional beliefs for Christianity can result in social ostracism, making personal evangelism complex and requiring a foundation of trust and relationship.

Shintoism and Buddhism dominate Japan's spiritual landscape, with 79.2% and 66.8% of the population adhering to these faiths, respectively, while Christians make up only 1.5%. The small Christian community faces significant challenges, including limited access to Bible teaching resources and a pressing need for both evangelism and discipleship to strengthen their faith.
